Fun Run Check List


1 month in advance:
·    Determine location and time:  Generally begins around 8:00 am, but depends in large part upon how many birds/braces you will have, the time of year, and so forth.  Locations:  prior locations have been Asotin County Wingshooters, Hells Gate State Park, Jack Flack’s, Shea Meadows—it’s best to discuss this with the executive board.
·    Obtain property owners permission and obtain necessary permits from state game department.   
·    Order birds.  Prior bird companies with whom we have done business are:  Dunlap; Scott Sorenson. Discuss with the executive board before ordering.
·    Line up somebody to take care of the birds right before the fun trial and deliver to site.
·    Once time and location are determined and birds ordered, provide the information to the secretary so that he/she may publicize via emails and newsletters within the club.  Be sure to notify him/her how much it will cost per brace (based upon cost of birds).
·    Check with an executive board member to make sure we have enough ribbons for the event.
·    Place order for outhouses to be delivered on site.  You may contact one of the following: King’s Thrones,
·    Train the trainer component – who will present, what topic, when (before event or during lunch) and so forth.

2 weeks in advance:
·    Obtain volunteers to be scorekeeper, registrar, bird planters, field marshals, setup and cleanup.
·    Obtain 2 ATV’s and a bird trailer for planting birds.
·    Obtain a trailer or vehicle to serve as a blind.
·    Obtain a volunteer to supply the water, and fill the troughs in the field.
·    Obtain a volunteer  to pull the club trailer to site for set-up.
·    Check club supplies for potluck lunch (i.e., Cups, paper plates, plastic silverware, condiments, pop/water).
·    Obtain a volunteer to make/provide coffee the morning of the fun trial.
·    Make sure all permits have been acquired.

Friday before:
·    Set-up troughs (may not wish to fill with water yet), field boundary flags, and pull club trailer on site.
·    Order 3-4 boxes of donuts at baker of your choice.

Morning of:
·    Pickup donuts and ice.
·    Set out tables, chairs, ice chest with pop/water.
·    Fill troughs with water if not already done.
·    Put out road signs.
·    Tape trial rules to side of club trailer.
·    Pull volunteer trailer/vehicle into a spot for a blind.
·    Hang score sheets on trailer doors with tape and/or staples.
·    Make sure everything is cleaned up at the end of the day.
·    Provide all money & notes/score sheets to the treasurer.

*Note: It may be easier to divide duties among the 4 previous winners.  For example:  One winner will be in charge of bird planting and lining up atv’s; another would be in charge of field marshalling and finding volunteers for that job; another would be in charge of registration and scorekeeping, etc.

Trial Winner Placements:
Winner placements shall be awarded in the following manner:
·    First Place shall be awarded to the participants in the highest scoring brace in each trial field.  Given that there is a tie for first place all tied participants shall be awarded a first place ribbon.
·    Second Place shall be awarded to the participants in the second highest scoring brace in each trial field.  Given there is a tie for second place all tied participants shall be awarded a second place ribbon.
·    Third Place shall be awarded to the participants in the third highest scoring brace in each trial field.  Given there is a tie for third place all tied participants shall be awarded a third place ribbon.
·    Derby Dog Ribbons shall be awarded in each field to the highest individual (not a brace score/shared score) scoring dog under two years of age having found at least one bird.  Given there is a tie for the derby dog all tied participants shall be awarded a derby dog ribbon.

Any questions on the trial chairman’s part regarding dog placements, scores and awards should be directed to the association officer(s).  Finished score sheets should be kept as a record in the association trailer until the following trial.
