ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT - Wednesday, November 16, 2005
Where: Colton Gun Club located north of Colton and south of Pullman on the EAST side of Hwy 195.
When:
6:00 p.m. - Come prepared to shoot – not at turkeys, but at
clay pigeons, for an opportunity to win a BIG bird for your
Thanksgiving table! This is a club-sponsored event – anyone
is welcome to participate – but must be a current (paid) member
of SRSGDA. You may pay dues that evening. There are no
shooting fees; provide your own shells. Dress appropriately for
the season (might be cold…might be drizzly…) Beard and
spurs are optional.
December
Little Canyon Shooting will
host another great weekend of youth hunts at the Peck and Plummer
properties, Saturday, December 3, and Sunday, December 4. This is
a great opportunity for club members to interact with young
hunters. Sonny Hairston and his staff need club members and their
pointing dogs to volunteer as “guides.” Please
contact Sonny at: 208-486-6235 for further information. See
you at Sonny’s!

forms are included in this mailing – please return, no later than
November 26, to SRSGDA Secretary Nance Ceccarelli, 1031 Showalter Road,

Fabulous fun fall follies and training day - September 3, 2005
Snow
Farms – What a great venue – and what a wonderful
day! Many thanks to Jack and Susie Flack for the hospitality.
Congratulations
to the ultimate winners, jumpin’ Jack Flack and
“lickety-split” Lizzy, in fending off the calm and
collected challenger Gary Gage and his consummate gentleman hunter,
Handsome Harry! Both dogs progressed through the
“winning” brackets of this 32-dog double elimination
tournament until Lizzy eliminated Harry for his first loss in the
semi-final round. Harry quickly eliminated his competition in the
final round of the “losing” brackets, which set up the
champion final brace in which Lizzy and Harry met again. Both
men, it should be noted, are long time members of the SRSGDA, each
graduated from high school in the previous century, and were the only
individuals who entered and kept progressing through the brackets with
THREE (3) dogs in the tournament. I’m not sure how we would
have handled the situation if Jack or Gary ended up braced against
themselves! Regardless, this just goes to show that hunting with
dogs keeps you fit!
This fun fall event was perhaps one of the
largest in terms of attendance (people and dogs) – and was
spectacular in terms of the luncheon faire. Just the perfect
send-off for what has been a beautiful fall hunting season. To
enjoy the bounty and feasts of the season, we have included for you a
couple of SRSGDA members’ great wild bird recipes many of us have
sampled during club events. Once again, thank you ALL – for
the great assistance and participation. If you were unable to
attend, we hope to see you next September!
