January/February 2002 Snake River Gun Dog and Sportsman Association
|
Treasurers Report. The association's current bank
statement for the year ending December 2001 is $4859. Dues for
2002 are due as of January 1st. Annual
dues are $25 per household.
Scott Sorenson has bravely volunteered to coordinate the efforts of the club to form a NAVHDA chapter here in the inland northwest. So far we have 5 of the 10 members required to form a local chapter. Please contact Scott Sorenson at ssorenson@turbonet.com or (208) 883-8544 if you have questions or would like information on joining NAVHDA.
The
Clearwater Pointing Dog Club will be hosting a NSTRA trial at Hells Gate State
Park the weekend of February 16th and 17th. The Clearwater PDC is another local gun dog
club that has extensive experience with NSTRA trials and gun dogs in
general. The field is closed for this
trial, but if you would like to see some very skilled dogs run and meet some
folks who really know the game this would be a good event to attend. The chairman of the trial is John
Peacock.
The spring Fun Run will be held February 23rd at Hells Gate State Park south of Lewiston, Idaho. Gary Gage and Scott Sorenson are co-chairing the event.
Lunch will be a potluck affair, the success of which is dependent upon member participation. Please bring a dish to share that will feed about 10 people. The lunch last spring was pretty spectacular but if we all contribute to the cause we can surpass it this year. Ted Downs has volunteered to marshal the lunch table. Apologies to Ken New, who was erroneously mentioned in the last newsletter.
Volunteers have been requested to help with the running of this fun run. Help is needed in timing braces, planting birds, etc. Please contact either of the co-chairs if you are willing to help out.
The cost to run will be $15 per brace. Lunch will cost $2. You must be a paid member for year 2002 to run a dog, but you can pay your $25 annual membership at the fun run when you check in.
This has historically been our most popular event, so contact the chairpersons early to reserve your brace or braces. You can contact the chairpersons at:
Gary Gage: ggage@turbonet.com or (208) 285-1608
Scott Sorenson: ssorenson@turbonet.com or (208) 883-8544
We (the Snake River Gun Dog and Sportsman’s Association) will be hosting a NSTRA trial on March 23rd and 24th, 2002. This double-double trial will be held at the Hells Gate State Park south of Lewiston, Idaho. Robert Uhrich is the chairman for the trial. Dick Chapman has been invaluable in the coordination of this trial, arranging for the judges and horses, and providing advice on the running of a NSTRA trial.
A good lunch will be available at the trial site for $6 both Saturday and Sunday, and there will be a room reserved for dinner and refreshment for trial participants and club members Saturday night.
Volunteers have been requested to help with the running of this trial. We have bird planters for one day, but still need some experienced bird planters. Please contact Robert Uhrich if you are willing to help out.
It is very important to the club that this trial succeed, so if you have ever wanted to run your dog in an official NSTRA trial, this is the time to do it. Even if you don’t want to run a dog, or plant birds, please come and enjoy the event to show your support.
NSTRA trials usually fill up pretty quickly. The first day that registrations were being accepted was Jan 22nd, 2002, so if you are interested in running your dog contact Robert right away. The entry fee is $35 per brace.

The Spring Banquet will be held April 6th at Lakey’s Grill in Pullman, Washington, which is located in the building where Shermers used to be.
This is the big meeting where club officers are elected, issues requiring the input of the full membership are aired, and that sort of thing. Now is the time to start thinking of whom you would like to nominate for the various officer positions in the club.
Doc Kramer is working on getting a speaker to give a presentation on prairie game birds at the Banquet, but it is tentative at this point. There will be a few true stories and a bunch of lies about this bird season, and you are welcome to bring pictures or slides of your season, as this is probably your best opportunity to show them to an appreciative audience.
