Turkey Shoot

The November Turkey Shoot was held November 14th at 6:30pm at the Colton Gun Club.  Prizes were awarded for being either the best shot in the round or the worst shot in the round, depending on a flip of a coin made by a disinterested third party.  Each person could only win one prize, and there were a few prizes left unclaimed, so those who did not attend missed out.  In addition to turkeys, event coordinator Mark George provided a few alternate prizes including shotgun shells, dog collars, and some really slick dog stakes of his own construction.  This was a really fun event for even the poor shots among us (the club secretary was the only poor shot at the event, and even he went away with something).

A club business meeting was held in conjunction with the shoot.  The upcoming schedule of events was discussed, with a great deal of discussion going toward the upcoming NSTRA trial this spring.  The NSTRA trial is looking like a rather formidable undertaking, so if you would like to volunteer time or material please contact the trial chairman Robert Uhrich.

Upcoming Events

Christmas Party

The annual Christmas Party will be held December 15th at the Depot in Pullman.  This party is a potluck affair, so please bring a dish to share, as well as plates and silverware.  If you would suggestions on what to bring, or would like to help or contribute to the Christmas Party effort in another manner please contact Doc Kramer at jwk@vetmed.wsu.edu

Note:  This did not go out in the paper version of the newsletter like it should have:

The Clubs 2001 annual Christmas Party will be held 6 PM, Saturday December 15th, in the Cougar Depot, Pullman.  The just north of the Washington Mutual Savings Bank on the northwest corner of the junction of Grand (SH 27) and Davis Way (SH 270).  See your telephone book for a Pullman map.

A white elephant gift exchange will take place.  A fitting would have a value of less than $10.  Try your local Thrift shop, Good Will, Salvation Army Store and your closet for ideas

This will be a potluck, a plate to feed ten would be sufficient.  Bring your own plate and cutlery.  Please call and let John or Alice Kramer at (509) 332-7273 know your coming and for additional information or dishes needed.  Yes, children are welcome.

January Shoot

We will have a clay pigeon shoot the evening of Thursday, January 10th.  The location is undecided as yet, but will likely be either the Colton Gun Club or the Lewiston Gun Club.  The weather this winter will play a large part in where this event will be held, Lewiston being less likely to have a large accumulation of snow than Colton.

February Fun Run

The spring Fun Run will be held February 23rd at Hells Gate State Park south of Lewiston, Idaho.

Lunch will be a potluck affair, the success of which is dependent upon member participation.  Please bring a dish to share.  Ken New has graciously volunteered to run the lunch table.  The lunch last spring was pretty spectacular but if we all contribute to the cause we can surpass it this year.  If you are at a loss for what to bring, contact one of the chairmen and they will be able to offer some advice.

Gary Gage and Scott Sorenson are co-chairing the event.

The cost to run will be $15 per brace.  Lunch will cost $2.

This has historically been our most popular event, so contact the chairpersons early to reserve your brace or braces.    You can contact the chairpersons at:

Gary Gage:  ggage@turbonet.com

Scott Sorenson:  ssorenson@turbonet.com or (208) 883-8544

Spring Banquet

The Spring Banquet will be held April 6th at Lakey’s in Pullman, WA.  This restaurant is where Shermers used to be.  This is the big meeting where club officers are elected, issues requiring the input of the full membership are aired, and that sort of thing.  Now is the time to start thinking of whom you would like to nominate for the various officer positions in the club.  There will be an informational presentation as well as a few true stories and a bunch of lies about this bird season.  If you have suggestions for locations or would like to suggest a presentation for the Banquet please contact Terry Quinn at tquinn@uidaho.edu or (208) 877-1571.  More details on this event will be forthcoming as we get closer.

NSTRA Trial

We (the Snake River Gun Dog and Sportsman’s Association) have a spring trial date for NSTRA on March 23rd and 24th, 2002.  This double-double trial will be held at the Hells Gate State Park south of Lewiston, Idaho.  Robert Uhrich is the chairman for the trial.

The braces will begin at 6:30am, with coffee and doughnuts available for breakfast.  Lunch will be catered, and there will be a group dinner Saturday night for those who would like to attend.  The caterer and the location of the Saturday night dinner have yet to be decided.

It is very important to the club that this Trial succeed, so if you have ever wanted to run in an official NSTRA trial, this is the time to do it.  You do not need to be a NSTRA member to participate. Even if you don’t want to run a dog, please come and enjoy the event to show your support.

NSTRA trials usually fill up pretty quickly, and NSTRA rules say you cannot register for an event more than 60 days prior to the event.  60 days prior to March 23rd, 2002 is Jan 22nd, 2002, so if you are interested mark that date on your calendar and give Robert a call that morning.
